russian sage

Hi all,

I live in zone 5 with sandy loam soil.
What are people's thoughts on using crushed oyster shells as mulch for Russian Sage?
Also, our soil is somewhat acidic. Should I use lime when planting?

Thank you!

Russian sage likes a well drained soil of average fertility. Put some compost in the planting hole and some slow release fertilizer in full sun. Compost is alkaline. You need to water until it gets established and then you can back off. It is a lot like growing rosemary and lavender, the less you do to it the happier it is. You do have to prune it back to rejuvenate it.
