Very Large Flower Bed

We have a very large garden bed in our front yard that is overwhelming to tackle. This pic was taken when we first moved in - we have since removed the large hydrangeas because that is not the look we are going for. We are in Ohio (Midwest America) and the front yard receives a lot of sun. Looking for low maintenance and cost suggestions!

Welcome! Can't really tell from the picture, but the large plants that you say have been moved look like hostas ~ could be the photo; it's a little blurred. Anyway .......... what particular look are you going for? My mind says daylilies, but I really like those and that may not be your thing either. Do you want something evergreen for all-year interest?
Also, there is height to be considered ~ your front yard has a nice balance and you don't want to plant something that throws it off.

Is this area shady? Canopy of trees? How much direct sun?
What is the soil like?

How long have you lived in the house? It looks like the yard would be pretty shady once the trees finish leafing out.
