Too much water or not enough?

I'm quite new to gardening and although I am focusing mostly on my veggies I also planted flowers and don't want to see them shrivel away.

I can't quite figure out if this is happening due to too much watering or not enough. I feel the soil and it is quite confusing. It's not wet but it's not dry. Here are some pictures, some leaves seem to be browning up and drying. The two affected plants seem to be Torenia and Ageratum!

Thanks in advance!

Ageratum and torenia like cooler climates. It could be leaf scorch if it is getting too much sun especially if they are recent transplants. They both like a rich soil and even moisture. the top of the soil will dry out faster than a couple of inches down. You want to check moisture at the root level so stick your finger down a couple of inches and if it is damp but not soggy it should be just right.

Thank you so much! I'll try giving them a bit of shade. Florida weather and sun must be tough on them.
