I have several coneflower plants that bloomed wonderfully this summer...right now those flowers are dying off...should I cut off the spent flowers? I did prune some the dead flowers and the stems that didnt have new growth on it. Some eone thought it would encourage more blooming.
How about balloon flowers? How do I handle dead flowers on them?
thanks for any help.

I prune the dead flowers off my balloon flowers nearly every day. I use siccors, and watch cause they weep white fluid almost immediately. I also prune of the dead coneflowers, daisy's and sometimes my potentillas. It never hurts to "dead head" flowers unless you want to leave the seeds for the birds (cone flowers).beth2 wrote:I have several coneflower plants that bloomed wonderfully this summer...right now those flowers are dying off...should I cut off the spent flowers?
