trasnplanting peonies

so I've read some of the posts on here that say the best time to transplant a peony is the fall. I plan on dividing them and putting them in multiple places in the yard. there are 2 bushes that are quiet large and will give me probably 3 or 4 subdivisions.

my issue is my mother is moving next week and they need to be transplanted at the hottest part of the summer. should I plant them in a pot until the fall or should I take my chances and transplant them into the ground now?

any and all comments would be appreciated!!

Hi towergarden :D

I would plant them in their final position in the new garden now. They hate being moved at the best of times and to put them in a pot and then move them again would probably mean no flowers for a few years. I doubt they will die from being transplanted now. You just may not get any flowers next year.
