Our oldest clematis

Due to some construction, we had to clip this plant almost to the ground this year. As usual, it is still providing a dazzling array of bloom.

Nope. It just shot about six feet of fresh growth up and then covered itself with bloom. The photo doesn't show it very well but only about half of the flower buds have opened so far.
