seeds from echinacea

Can someone explain how and when to save seeds from echinacea? Do I deadhead or remove the head while it's still blooming? How should I store them etc.

Thanks in advance.

You'll want to keep the entire seed head. You can see them as these black, spiny looking things on the crown of the dried flower stalk. Cut the head off the stalk after all the petals have dropped away, then dry it further on a plate or in a paper bag. Once dry, you can rub your fingers over the crown to free the seeds.

If you don't want to plant immediately just store your seeds in an envelope (not forgetting to write on the envelope what they are!!) in a dry airy place until you want to plant. They will keep for several years.
