I have some wild viola sororia plants in my yard; they have large, beautiful heart-shaped leaves but small blooms. I often see viola plants sold at nurseries that are the exact opposite: they have small, ugly leaves and big blooms. I wonder, could I breed the two plants together to create a violet with big, heart-shaped leaves and large blooms?
Creating hybrid plants is common practice, but I have no experience or knowledge with it. Could any of you give me some guidance or point me toward a reference on the subject?
