I have Hydrangeas and hostas under oak trees, is there anything I can do to make them grow better? I am experiencing burnt leaves hydrangeas and wilting hostas

Hi Mark,

You probably already have the answer to this, but the only thing you can do for your plants and the trees is to move the plants. The roots of the trees are competing with the plants for moisture and nutrients.

Yes, Oak roots tend to be shallow and the trees secrete secondary metabolites like coumarin that retard the growth of grasses and other plants.

So, it best to move your hostas and other plants.

However, Chocolate Lilies, Easter Lilies, Sea Blush and goldenrod can grow in the presence of the Oak allelopathic bath.
