Drum Roll please! My Gardenia bloomed!

It wasn't a slow opening.. it must have "exploded" during the night!

I couldn't believe my eyes!

Beautiful!

Indeed gorgeous and looks like lots more to come! Is it as fragrant as they say? (I can't really tell from the photo :) )

Thank-you for celebrating with me!

Yes, it is very fragrant.. strong like a lilac, but a sweeter smell.

There are several buds so I am sure in a couple of days it will be strikingly beautiful!

Here in North Carolina, I'm blessed to enjoy my gardenias year round. I find that they love high acid soil and I fertilize with Holly Tone. Gardenia may be my very favorite. I have two of them planted just outside my screened porch and when they're in bloom, it makes my knees buckle! Enjoy the fragrance and beauty.

Twittel, do they bloom only once a year?

Mine had buds that fell off in September and this is the second round with much success!

Cupakathy:

I usually get a late spring and mid summer bloom on my gardenia. Mine are in the ground, not potted, so that makes a difference (maybe). There is a cold hardy gardenia called, "Chuck Hayes" that may give an autumn bloom, and may be successful for you in New York if you could find one.
