potted tulips

My tulips are blooming now and are beautiful but I really wanted them to wait until April. What can I do next year to insure this? I have to order my bulbs in the fall because I get a huge discount ordering with my company.

These are tulips in large buckets.

Buy a different variety next time. Tulips come in early-, mid- and late-season varieties.

Early-season tulips bloom in March and early April.
Mid-season tulips bloom in April and early May.
Late-season tulips bloom in May.

Variations in weather patterns can affect the bloom time somewhat, too, so I suggest that you buy mid-season varieties, but then, relax and enjoy them whenever they decide to put on a show for you.

If you plant some of each variety, you can enjoy their beauty for a longer time each spring. :)
