help with red grape spiderwort (tradescantia)

I've got some amazing Tradescantia "red grape" growing like mad; They were just planted this year, about 3 months ago, and are doing so well they are overwhelming my potentia and false spirea. Is there any way to control them? If I prune them, are there any tricks or will pruning cause them to grow more? I think I'm going to have to transplant the Potentia but probably isn't a good time of year for that. I just need to keep these spiderwort wannabes from being so spider-y! They're dwarfing the other plants in my collection. Any ideas?

Although we don't know where you live you can transplant this time of year and water it in good.
