I don't know if your winter weather is a whole lot different than where I live. We have almost constant rain, and 2 to 4 weeks of freezing weather, sometimes with a little snow. I have my hyacinths planted in a very well-drained area, so I just leave them in the ground all winter. They've always done just fine. Hyacinths like a period of cold during the winter.
