Fern Decimation

So because of this unusually warm march and april our ferns are already 2 feet tall as opposed to the usual of just barely sticking out of the ground. This morning we had a light frost and it killed all my ferns (luckily the only perennials that had damage but I have a ton of ferns). Will they start popping out of the ground again now that the stems/leaves are dead or are they done for the year?

If your ferns are cold hardy for your area, I think it is very likely they will send up new shoots to replace the ones that were killed off. So the sympathies I expressed when you mentioned this in a different post, were premature!

Yeah the root system is definitely cold hardy, we actually got these from a forest on the north shore of Lake Superior, so it's strange to me that the stems/leaves would die from just a light frost. I believe they're ostrich fern.
