Why are my epimediums dying?

I have some epimediums in a pretty shady part of my yard and some of the leaves are turning brown and dying. It does not appear to be the whole plant but a large portion. This happened in the same spot last year, all the other epis in the yard seem fine. The soil is very good the area is semi under a deck but never gets real dry as I water it, there are Hostas and toad lillys in the same area. I have googled the daylight out of this and can find nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe you over-fertilized it? If you put a ton of chemical fertizer on a plant, it will burn the roots and part of the plant will die.
