Mulch

we got a siberian elm cut down and the stump grinded down and I was wondering if it would be ok to put it down as mulch on my flower gardens and around trees?

That's not a problem as long as you feed some extra nitrogen to your plants because the mulch will pull some from the soil.

I would just like to add that you don't want to place the mulch right against your plants. I did this and they started dying. I had to pull it out a couple inches. At least I thought that was the problem. If I'm wrong on this someone please correct me. :)

If you use chemical fertilizers, you just add some, something that is high in the first number of the NPK numbers.

If you are gardening more organically, add a nitrogen source like grass clippings, coffee grounds, finished compost, well aged composted manure.
