tulip bulbs

when I moved to the house I am in now, we dug up the garden. I discovered many tulip bulbs. not knowing a thing about gardening I was told you can only plant tulip bulbs in the fall. what should I do. I live in michigan

I would personally leave the bulbs in the soil so that they can bloom next year.

You could gather then up and keep them in some moist sawdust until the fall if you want but, I'd just leave them as they are.
