iris and bearded iris

I am in zone 6. Is it too late to divide iris and/or bearded iris this year?

If yes, can these be divided in spring?

Thank you.

Either fall or spring. Pretty hardy. When you transplant cut back the tops and throw a handful of bonemeal around the roots and remove any corms that don't look healthy.

It is getting a bit late now. When we say transplant in "fall," we usually mean before frosts set in. The thing with dividing and transplanting is that you want the plant to have time to establish roots and settle in to the new spot before frosts hit and it goes dormant. Otherwise it can just sit there and rot. I'm also in zone 6 and we've already had a couple frosts.

So, at this point, I'd wait until spring. Once it wakes up from dormancy you can divide and move it, but early before it is setting buds.
