Ornamental Grass Isn't Rooting

Hi everyone,

I planted an ornamental grass about a month ago (miscanthus 'gracillimus') and I just checked today to see how it's doing. When I tugged on the plant (I probably shouldn't have done this) I noticed that the whole root ball was moving. What will happen over the winter? Will it come back? I live in Connecticut (zone 6-7). Please tell me what I should do before the first frost comes in about a week.

I would pack the soil around the root ball and then do heavy mulching.
