Alberta Pine ( Spruce?)

Hi... I'd like some advice about Alberta Pine ( dwarf.) Some say Alberta Spruce...any difference?
Dry, dead inside; looks good on the outside. Ok to shake to remove dead needles inside? Ok to trim lower branches? When is a good time? Zone #5

Many thanks...

Grab a pine then grab a spruce then look at your hand. Pine needles are flexable spruce needles are not. Trim in the fall or early spring and then fertilize. If they get wind in the winter you might want to wrap them in burlap and water every so often if no moisture comes from MN. Spruce are more susceptible then pine of winter winds.
