Clemetis not blooming :(

I have a big clemetis vine that is not blooming this year at all! Last year it had just a couple blooms. What is going on? What did I do or not do?

Clematis like cool roots and a slightly alkaline soil. Have you tested the soil recently? Do you have something shading the base of the plant?

If you fertilized, what kind did you use? Fertilizers that are high in nitrogen ... nitrogen content is indicated by the first of the 3 numbers you'll see on the front of the package ... encourage the growth of stems and leaves, at the expense of flowers. I give my clematis a little lime early each spring. :)

Kisal, I was totally ignorant towards this plant (and all others  ) until this year when I noticed it's not blooming, while the neighbor's is blooming like crazy.

I never fertilized it or pruned it last fall either. Should I have pruned it?

The need for, and method of, pruning would depend on the type of clematis you have.

This is a pretty thorough article about how to care for clematis:
