Wildflower meadow sustainability?

I just had my back yard torn up to put down a driveway for a garage, and have two narrow strips on land that have some nice fresh turned-over fill. My plan was to buy a large amount of low-growing wildflower seeds and throw it in a drop spreader come spring time.

Is there any trick to getting this to come up initially? Starter fert and milo?

How feasible is it to run my mulching mower over this in the fall assuming all goes well? The thought process behind this is that enough seeds will find their way back into the ground.
