elephant ear

Last fall, a friend of mine gave me two plants which I believe to be Elephant ears. They are reddish in color and have that super amazing foliage. They looked great pretty much all winter even through the little snow and the few very cold days we had. Now, that it's getting warmer out they are starting to look a little sad. Is this normal for this plant?

If they are elephant ears they are a zone 8 plant, Florida. Leaves always look good when they are frozen and now they have thawed you see the result. You might want to pot up and put them in the shade.
