Preparing Hazelnut Seeds for Sowing

Hi,

So I ordered a bit of both American and European hazelnut seeds and I was wondering about how they would do in refrigerated stratification? On the website I got them from it says they need to be cold stratified for 180 days, which sounds like the entire winter but I was wondering if it was at all possible to get some germinated by just refrigerating them in wet paper towel (or some other moist material) for about a month? Would that be far too short of a stratification period? I'm also curious because I saw a YT video where the person stratified their hazelnut seed in a moist paper towel for just 2-3 weeks.

Additionally for the stratification would having some kind of moss wrap the seed while being refrigerated possibly be more effective? I read on a few places online that some people used moss to get seeds of other kinds of plants to sprout.

Thank You!
