Advice for Planting Strawberries from Seed?
I have a bunch of different strawberry seeds that I am going to start. I usually buy plants but I wanted to try some different kinds that I can't find around in my area (zone 9). Any pointers?
It probably isn't a good idea to save seed from a hybrid strawberry. Hybrids are crossed with other varieties giving a unique size, texture, and taste. And there are a lot out there. Once your seed has sprouted you may not achieve the results your are seeking in accomplishments. You may have a plant, and no fruit, or a fruit that isn't at all like the berry you remember eating. The term used "breed true".
Lets say all your berries are not from hybrids, they germinate and sprout. Its a success, all your many varieties will need to be covered from all the other different berries you have planted due to cross pollination from breeze or visiting insects. Demanding even more of your hard efforts, by hand pollinating.
