here is a video I made that shows a method for starting seeds indoors fast: I guess this would be the right time for gardeners in the southern hemisphere

Thanks!grwrn wrote:Very informational and professional.
I may try the plastic cups next spring instead of my toilet paper tubes as they are bigger and more time to grow before transplanting. I like the plastic bottle for watering idea too.
In previous years I have used newspaper cups that I made, but they only got moldy. In my experience because these cups are big the plants experience less shock. It is important to get smooth cups without the ridges so the rootball slides easily out. Also I believe transparent cups are best since they let more light get to the young seedlings making them less leggy. (I guess the aluminum trays also reflect some of the light back.

I agree about plastic - would be nice to avoid, but just works better than anything else. I use the regular plastic pots, that I buy cheap and re-use for years:

They fit very nice and orderly into 1020 trays, 18 to a tray:

It works better and easier for me to bottom water, just pour A LITTLE BIT of water in to the tray, so the water just touches the bottoms of the pot.

I guess glass pots could work but, being breakable, heavy and inflexible, it would end up being worse.rainbowgardener wrote:I agree about plastic - would be nice to avoid, but just works better than anything else. I use the regular plastic pots, that I buy cheap and re-use for years:

The bottom watering is a good tip!
