Soilless seed starting
Do I have to use a soilless medium to start seeds or can I use regular potting soil? I have started the germination process in paper towels if that makes a difference.
I have used a soilless mix for cuttings but never for starting seeds
. Seed-starting is what is supposed to be its primary use.
Seeds for my garden plants have been going into a standard potting soil for decades. Perhaps, it would be better if the mix was run thru a finer screen; still, it works fine. But yes, I have had damping off some years in a few containers. Probably could have had that nearly as often with a soilless mix, however.
My advice: Use a good brand - don't go with low quality. And, keep your fingers crossed, just as you would no matter what you are doing with your seed
