Years ago you never would see blends of seeds. Lettuce was limited to several main varities like simson and salas bown and a few others. Now you can sellect lettuce with 5 or more typs in the blend. I planted a blend this year and the colors were nice with the reds and off shades making it look like a painted picture!.
+++
What is also nice about blends is some mature a week earlier that others. Thes blends also come now in radish, tomatoes and I think you will see more this coming year! I look to the future in that companion planting mixes will emerge! Carrots with lettuce and radish with most oher seeds. Heirloom tomato blends are fun to grow because you are always looking to try something new! +++
If you don't like suprises stick with the usual types but if you have the oom try something new! I mix several kinds of beans in one row! Has anyone tried lettuce blends and what were the results? Actually right lights swiss chart has become one of the best selling seed blends! The three colors of chard make anie selection even in a flower bed!
