Cuttings from 'mother cuttings' ?

Ive recently cut a ivy leaf stem after sitting 3 weeks in water it started growing roots so I transplanted it in soil now after additional 2 weeks it quickly grew about 5 inches (now comes the main point) so I cut the new growth from the original [mother] cutting and put it in a cup of water will both cutting grow new stems ?
(or have I rushed to early to take additional cuttings)
