Double Dog Farm 2012

February 7, 2012. 3 days in the high 50s - low 60s. Strange winter.

Started some seeds 2 days ago, Feb. 5th.
Planted:
2 flats of Patterson onion. (storage)
2 flats of Deep Purple onion (bunching)
2 flats of Guardsman onion (bunching)
1 flat of Red Bull onion (short storage)
1 flat of Bloomsdale Spinach
1 flat of Tyee Spinach
1 flat of Di Cicco Broccoli

I don't believe I changed any procedures from last year. All 10 flats are open, no cells. The mix is a 50/50 Coir / Perlite and the thermostat is set at 80F. No artificial lighting.

that di cecco broccoli can be out of this world if you give it high mineral feed. dark dark green with a powerful sweet taste not bitter like most broccoli.

That's good to hear. I'll add some Azomite to my broccoli plants this year.

Dusty, Lancelot leeks have been my leeks of the past, but now that I'm starting from seed, more choices. https://www.dixondalefarms.com/category/lancelot_leeks

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines.
Let the Games Begin

Tell me more about your starter tower. I like the looks of it. I have started some tomatoes (2 flats) and peppers (1 flat) and my wife has a couple of flats of flowers.

Also, this year I am gung-ho trying to grow some oak trees from acorns, and persimmon trees from seed

Patterson's storage onion is looking good and the others are not far behind

I have to be more careful with the Cole crops. I left the broccoli in just a little to long. They are leggy. When I up pot, I will plant them deep.

Some wintered over plants

Here, I'm trying to propagate Filbert cuttings. I have a waterbed heater under the pots and plastic tent above. Some of you may also recognize the crazy garlic experiment on the left. The garlic pushed themselves out of the cells.

I like ur set up. We are gonna build another greenhouse, 100 by 100. My last one was destroyed by a twister.

100 x 100 That is a large greenhouse. The trouble I could get into with something like that.

Oh yeah my old one was 60 by 60. I would grow plants and sale them. Right now I have people calling for maters and peppers. My Dad's green house is running wide open. He has so much fun with the children and young Master gardeners showing them different things on veggies and trees, I'll have a few here this weekend. Of course I have the 4H children this weekend as well.
