Have had several frosts and low temps...can I pick poppy pod

I need to know if I pick my poppy pods while they are still green and hang them to dry ,will the seeds be viable ?? This is my first year growing poppies and I absolutely love them. I am concerned they will not self sow in zone 3. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately the simple answer is that they are not ripe and therefore not viable.

Not ripe. I would wait until the vents open in the top and seed rattle inside.

If you have frost, but no rain, I would wait

The green pods in the last photo are not ready.

beautiful poppies eric, I lost my bag(1lb) of poppy seed for sowing this past spring. I had enough to scatter seed over the whole property, I was dreaming of an amazing summer show. then I couldnt find the bag, never did.

I would just observe the pods and check the seeds on some of the pods that look the most mature.

1 lb  You would think that would be hard to misplace. Had to be a fairly large bag.
