Put in 20 seed boxes a special way!

This past weekend I got my styrofoam grape boxes out that I have been using for three years now & tried something different! The boxes have holes in the bottom so I placed several sheets of news paper at the bottom! I next put in about 3 inches of leaves & covered the leaves with few cut fruits like apples and bananas then added some urea and bloodmeal! I topped hat with 2 inches of garden top soil! I addeded a inch or so of potting mix and patted it all down! I plaed the seeds on top then add a covering of more potting soil and put a little water on! I covered the top of the boxwith clear plastic or glass till the seeds sprout! The temp in my greenhouse this week should be nice and warm so I hope they sprout quick! I am hoping that a little heat is generated by the mix and once the roots get longer the plants will benifit from ther mix! I planted about 10 varities of seeds and will report on my progress soon!

I added another 15 boxes of seeds planed this past weekend.
I made a few small changes. Istrained soil from my garden and mixed pine shavings that I got from the tractor supply. The pine shavings bag has 5.5 cubic feet for $5.50. I added it to thestrained dirt so it was like a sandwich! A layer of news paper leaves topped with blood mal and a little urea. I covered the mix with strained top soil mixed with the pine shavings. I added a 1 to 2 inch layer of potting or bought compost mix and tamped it down. I then added my seeds and covered the seeds with the bought mix and tamped it down more and added alittle water to soak into the mixture!. I then covered the box with plastic or a window. My seeds from last week cabbage, broccoli and raddishare already up even with the night temp 30 degrees! The grenhouse should not go below 30 from now on since the day time temp is 50 to 80!! I haver a fan kicking o when the temp goes above 60 that blows on two of the barrels! Crude but it works for me! We will see if the compost boxes actually work as the plants get bigger! The leaves and pine shavings should neutralise most of the nitrogen from the urea and the blood meal and I hope make a little heat for a few weeks! I really like the pine shavings and the garden soil mix which I also used in m 6 cold frames I did this past week also!
