Does anyone know anything about growing avocados? We've had three pits started in glasses for a while now. Each one has a small root but they seem to have stopped doing anything. How long does it take for them to sprout, and what do you do with them when they do?
Thanks.

You could probably move it to soil in a large post at any time. We grow ours in containers. Our current two volunteer avocado trees are about 8 feet tall after having been topped a couple of times. They are growing in approximately 25 gallon containers.
We don't bother sprouting our avocados. We just toss the pits into the compost pile and the sprout during the summer. If we want to start a new tree in a container, we just lift the plant from the compost and set it in a pot with potting soil.
