Jumbo Craft sticks the perfect markers!
I have been looking for something that would work great for marking my seed palnts and also plants in the garden. I found these a a craft store. 75 for $1 and they are 6 by 3/4 by 1/16 made like a double pop sickle stick. I can cut them in half on a angle and have two over 3 inches with points! Anyone find anything better and that cheap let me know?

Wooden plant parkers will discolor and rot pretty quickly.
Right now on [a popular internet auction company's website] you can buy a 100 pack of 4"x1/2" plant markers for $7.88 shipped.
If you don't want to spend the money buying ready-made plant markers- swing by your local apartment complex and raid their dumpsters for old plastic window blinds. They are constantly throwing them out as they renovate apartments and cut into strips they make serviceable plant markers that don't rot or discolor.
Another pro-tip- Sharpie will fade over time Pencil will not.

Just wrap a piece of masking tape on the top of the wood stick and write on the tape.
If the stick turns black from moisture you can still read what you wrote on the tape.
They are so cheap at the craft and dollar stores you don't need to save them for next year.
You can get hundreds of them for just over a dollar.
