Notes On translation

I want to preface this section with some discussion Larry and I have been having about F-sensei's writings. When I was taken aback by what I percieved as some rather hard line statements that F-sensei made, Larry clarified it for me, as he has in the Notes...
It is a common teaching device among Oriental philosophers to use paradox, illogic and apparent contradiction to break habitual patterns of thought.
We need to remember that as we read this we are not enjoying the clarity of an idea expressed in its mother tongue, or the inherent concepts born of that society. Larry has put much effort into making this concept accessible to Western minds, but the more we keep in mind that this is not of that paradigm, the better we will understand the concepts expressed here. Larry's participation will hopefully counteract any misconceptions we may bring or develop...
