Jalapeño pickle juice to brighten flavor of soup -- Mmmm!

I made soup for lunch. My own vegetable stock, a splash of vodka, some bacon, onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic, penne pasta, and kabocha with some beef. (kale in the stock and garlic in the soup along with herbs were my only garden harvest though) It was good soup -- just needed a bit more salt and peppers at serving. But for 2nd serving, I didn't want to add extra salt.

I decided to try a splash of EVOO, then remembered I'd just opened my own canned pickled jalapeños. I didn't want the soup to be hot/spicy so I just added a teaspoon of the pickle juice to the bowl.

I just had to rave about how good that tasted! :()

Sounds good! I like the splash of vodka too, not something I would have thought of, though I cook with wine a lot, probably a somewhat similar effect. Don't usually have vodka in the house.
