Won't eating the flowers stop you from getting squash? I've neer had the flowers so I can't really say, but I think I'd rather have the squash.

in some cases plants will develop flowers and no squash, u can tell the ones that wont develop the squash by looking directly behind the flower on the stem, if it looks like there is no baby squash, eat the flower....try the batter for the oven fried zuchini recipe I posted and fry in oil instead of oven frying...yummy! but remember to try to rinse out some of the pollen from the flower as pollen can taste a little bitter sometimes :)

I agree, male blossoms, the ones like WinglessAngel put it have 'no baby squash' behind the flower, work best for cooking. They also make beautiful eatable decorations on platters and to top salads.
