I just purchased a Viagrow Clonning systen to start plants from clippings. I have rooting gel hormone.
My question is should I use a hydroponic nutrient solution or just the rooting gel hormone until the clippings have grown roots?

Welcome to the forum!
I found it best to use a nutrient solution - I have used Clonex with the best results. Think about it - a rooting gel or powder would rinse off the stems fairly quickly. I even use a few drops in just a cup of water, to root a few cuttings, when I won't be doing enough to set up the cloner. Here are some photos over the years, showing some rootings I've done.
