Soil to DWC of older plant

I have a Bay Laurel that is currently in a 3 gal. nursery pot with soil. Last winter I started keeping several plants over winter using artificial light.

I plan on starting my hydroponics experiment this winter. I'm wondering if it's worth it to move the Bay Laurel from soil to DWC.

I know it's difficult but wondering if the long term isn't worth it. My goal is to have year round herbs but this is supposed to be a tree. My intention is to take cuttings every few years once it gets too big. Then sacrificing the now too large plant. The harvest should supply a few friends as well as myself.

Last year it grew quite well under a 400 watt equivalent LED. I'm just wondering if it's really difficult or impossible.
