When I retired I have visions of all kind of neat gardening efforts: composting, hydroponics, organic, etc. But habitat improvements in some hunting land, renovation of my porch, removing a fireplace, moving my greenhouse, growing way too many tomatoes to test it out, an Alaskan Cruise, and spending precious time with our grand kids took up the time in my first year (hey, I am NOT complaining). But now I am ready to create a compost pile that I can "flip" with my tractor and try some water gardening.
For the compost I just have to find a somewhat level spot and determine what the sides should be made of. But I am not sure where to start on hydroponics. I have a area out back where I need something of a privacy wall on a small porch. I had thought of four or five bamboo tubes, with water and plants, and the water creating a water fall from tube to tube.
Anything like that work?
What kind of pump?
Can I just hook it to my irrigation and refresh the water from the lake every other day?
How do the plants stay in?
How do feed nutrients? Or is that necessary?
Help!
