Amaryllis in water

This is my first time growing anything hydrophonically, I am trying to grow a amaryllis that way, I have 3 in potting soil and 1 in water, I do believe the one in water is actually growing more roots faster than the ones in the soil, although I can't see the ones in the soil of course. Is the lighting situation the same, or is the lighting different for these plants, I have it on my computer desk where it gets some light but not special lighting like the ones in soil. Need some information on the specifics of hydrophonics, thanks in advance.
