First time hydroponic system.

Hi,

Well this is the first time I've built a hydroponic system, it is a water culture system here are some pics.

I painted the rubbermaid.

The first tomato seedling that is going to try the hydroponics.

Tomatoes, chillis, and just an experiment....some brocoli.

Later I will try some arugula and lettuce.

The system is located in my terrace, it's still sunny in my terrace so I have to take advantage of it.

what are your thoughts on support for those tomato plants?

I still don't know, I was thinks on using some sort of plastic belts but I still don't know, what do you recommend?

Well I decided I want to make 3 mores holes, but I was wondering. What are the risk of having the pots out of the water while I make the holes.

How much time do they can handle, or is it too bad for them?.

No real recommendation on the tomato supports. My supports end up looking like Fred Sanford's yard. Old fishing poles, gnarly tree branch, pvc pipe, hog fencing, anything I can find.

I think for the raised beds I am going to rig an overhead support out of pvc and use twine to guide them up and back down this next year.

30 minutes or so won't hurt the roots as long as they are kept out of the sunlight. Somewhere cool and dark preferrably since your growing way down south. You'll have to do this occasionally when you change your resv. out so it's not a big deal. Just be gentle to the roots and you'll be fine.

My DWC systems were 5 gl buckets so I would just sit the plant on another empty bucket when I did the normal maintenance to them.

Well just stopped by to show you how are the things going, and they're going pretty awesome, all of my plants have grown a lot and the roots in the tomatoes are starting to show as well.

Oh, by the way this is the tezontle I told you, I decided I will germinate my seeds in this kind of substrate, that is a sprout of beet.

And a picture of the whole system working, which I still want to make other 3 holes in the center as I mentioned before and I have some arugula and baby lettuce germinating already to transplant in a near future.
