Other than tomatoes, what plants are good to start growing hydroponically with? I have a preference for fruits and herbs
I have never grown hydroponically before and I don't have a lot of equipment but I can find more easily
I have three very large plastic tubs and two aquariums also very large
I'm also interested in growing as organically as possible
Vorguen, welcome to the forum. Although I do not have the years of hydroponic experience many of these folks do, I can recommend a few from experience.
Leaf lettuce and mesclun varieties. I will add some bok choy / pak choy and spinach in the future. These work very well in a deep water culture or a raft system (which would be perfect for your aquarium).
Herbs: Basil and cilantro work exceptionally well in an ebb and flow system. I am going to run 6 station of different basil in an ebb and flow system later in the year.
I'll share what knowledge I have learned as this is an awesome skill to have in your food production arsenal.
Best of success!

Them damn aphids givving a good battle CS. I have a few "pet" ladybugs patrolling my basement plants. Not sure what they are eating, but they seem to stick around.csvd87 wrote:Mint does quite well and I'm sure parsley would work well. Stevia would probably work too.
Most nightshades will work in Hydro, with an exception to potatoes of course. I'm having success with eggplant and peppers.. sorta, battling aphids.
Maybe you need a good platoon or two of these warriors!
Thats some real interesting items on your list Vorguen, can't say I've grown any of them before. Light would be the limiting factor for any of those crops listed, but can't see why they couldn't be grown with the right conditions.Vorguen wrote:ah thats good... any other fruits that grow well hydroponically?
I was hoping for melons although I guess those might be very hard
strawberries? grapes?
blueberries? blackberries? raspberries? acai berries? elderberries?
I don't have adequate experience with fruiting crops in hydroponics to give any suggestions.
My thought on the blueberries, though, is that they'd probably have to be in a separate system by themselves because they like acidic conditions.
Mint and lemon balm will flourish easily. Rosemary does wonderful and is easy to grow, as well.
