I was thinking to maybe get a high-pressure sodium bulb to put on my flowering plants (indoors) in the summer so they would flower properly, but I read that HPS bulbs make a ton of heat. Which is not good (it is way too hot here in the summer anyway).
Are there any other kinds of bulbs that make good red light (around 2000K) for flowering/fruiting?
Thanks.

I would suggest fluorescents or compact fluorescents. Skip the pricy LED systems that are too new.
But also, are you SURE your plants need red light to bloom well? Not all plants do.
For example, tomatoes and peppers flower solely based on photo period, not red spectrum increases.
I grew a variety of peppers in my basement with nothing but a metal halide and a cheap bulb (primarily blue spectrum).

Fluros do work but have a very poor output and will give you a much reduced yeild compared to a hps light. Hps lights are in my experience the best for growth and bloom. There is a new type of shade availible called a cool tube and they will keep all of the heat out of your room allowing you to use whatever wattage light without raising the ambient temp, here in Australia we have alot of heat issues and the cool tubes thake care of it all! I have seen them at the address below if you want to have a look.
