HELP with twisted trunk

Hello, I recently acquired this ponytail palm from an estate auction. I have not previously owned one and found it interesting. I live in Northern California and have brought it inside the house due to severe winter freezing weather.
I have some questions. I have not seen photos of any that have twisted and thin trunks like this one. I'm looking for some care advise. My husband built the structure to hold up the twisting trunks, as they were poorly supported and down turned and in danger of breaking off. Can you please offer some advise on proper care and maintenance for this beautiful plant, I would appreciate it.
