Not sure about Chinese holly bonsai's health

Hello,

I recently bought a Chinese holly indoor bonsai, and it begins to show some yellow leaves, I'm not sure if this is normal or not? It also has some holes in some leaves as seen in the pictures below. I water it daily and mist it everything morning, it has good leakages and receives sunlight (not direct sunlight as I was told off to do that)

For starters, where are you located?

Second, while I'm not personally familiar with "Chinese Holly", I suspect that at the very least, during non-freezing months, it most likely would be happier as an "outdoor" bonsai. (But as you've been keeping it indoors, it would have to be slowly acclimated to the outdoors.) While I don't think it will survive an indoor existence, if you do keep it indoors it's going to need a lot more light than it's getting now.

Third, while every bonsai is different, I've yet to come across one that requires watering every single day - indoor or outdoor. Yellowing leaves are a prime sign of overwatering.

Have you done any bonsai research/reading?

Yes I have, I am located in the UK and my bonsai always stand near the window away from heating sources. I will water it less from now on, yet I read that this tree prefers a moist soil and it said that overwatering is not possible when there is good drainage which it has. And for the sunlight I assume it is enough as I have various other Bonsai's with the same light needs who do really well. I read somewhere that sometimes leaves turn yellow when tree's switch from outdoor's to indoor's? I was just worried about maybe any pesticides or something like that. And btw it an indoor plant which according to many websites does not prefer direct sunlight.

Joep,

How sure are you of this ID? I ask because your plant looks suspiciously like a Fukien Tea (Carmona). Maybe Google both species and take a closer look.

I agree. Could be a Fukien Tea.

@gnome

Hello,

My tree does not have any white flowers or red fruits, so I think it is a holly. Yet I must say that I am not sure, maybe they will come later.

Look carefully at picture #2. Those buds look ready to open.

It is indeed a Fukien Tea, the white flowers have only bloomed for about 2 weeks is that normal?
