Bugs on Schefflera

I have little black bugs on my schefflera. They appear on the top and bottom of the leaves. They almost look like specks of dirt. I can't take a picture right now. Any ideas? Thanks

Without a picture? Not many... :?

Can't be generalized like that and make a good call; if it's fungus gnats it's one way, if it's mites it's another. LOTS more description or better yet, images. Looking forward to them.

I can't really specify what it is without a picture right now. So if you give a picture I might be able to help.

I'm not that much of an expert but I'm willing to do all I can and research stuff for you. Anything for someone who needs help :)

My camera is down so I can't take a picture.

The bugs look like specks of dirt. The don't move much, just seem to sit on both sides of the leaves. They wipe off easily and are very soft. I can't see any legs or wings. When I clean the leaves, a few more show up the next day.

Sorry for not having any pictures, maybe Santa will take care of that.
