White Fuzzy Dust (mold?) on my Chinese Elm

okay, so I've given my Chinese Elm a watering yesterday, and usually this doesn't happen, but today there was a lot of white fuzzy dust on the soil. Is this mold ? can it be removed somehow ? Sorry that I cannot provide pictures at the moment, my cam is busted.

Thanks for any help

Worldslayer,

It certainly sounds like it could be mold. How are you determining when to water? Try using the 'chopstick method' that is outlined here as you may be watering too frequently. Also, are you keeping it outside where there is good airflow? Nor sure about your weather but all of my things are out of winter storage now. Have you by any chance applied a solid organic fertilizer recently?

I usually use the chopstick method. and it was kinda dry, so I watered it. I didn't change anything else.
