When does ficus microcarpa bark lighten up?

just wondering -
I have a ficus mcarpa that I have been taking care of for a few years - the plant it was cut from has that nice light colored ficus bark, but mine is a darker brown color. Does it have to do with age before it will start taking on that grayer color? If so, does anyone know how long it takes?
