Been reading a bit on the forums and watching videos on YouTube and figured I'd jump into this so I picked up a ficus, did some trimming, taping(adhesive out) and repotted. I removed a bulb from the root ball and plan to remove another as I will be exposing the root system a bit for aesthetics when I repot. Currently, about 3" or so of the roots are exposed with about half of that covered by bark mulch. I put plastic over this as I read it helps the plant recover from the shock of potting/initial trimming better? Was planning to remove the plastic in a month or so when it shows signs of being happy and putting out shoots.

Should I trim off some leaves at this point as well to promote new growth?
Appreciate any input.
